Under the auspicious of EU-EGY Twinning Project to support the Egyptian Accreditation Council entitles “Strengthening the Institutional Capacity of The Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC)”,
A Seminar was held on Benefits of Quality and Accreditation in Supporting and Development the Capabilities of Industrial Community in Egypt and enhancing the competitiveness of Egyptian Products at the hall of Investor Association,10th of Ramadan City on 1st of September 2015.
This Seminar is the second of a group of Seminars planned to be held allover Egypt in different areas of Egyptian Governorates whereas the first one was held in Borg El Arab City on 3rd August 2015.
The Seminar was held, with the presence of participants from different industrial and concerned private sector organizations from the industrial city of 10th of Ramadan.
Among the Attendees were Mr. Khaled Abdel Hamid – Vice of the Investor Association of 10th of Ramadan City and Mr. Mohamed Hassan – Vice of Alka Egypt. Among the speakers were Mr. Stephan Helmprobst, Resident Twinning Adviser and Mr. Thomas Facklam, chairman of European accreditation. Besides Mr. Hany El Desouki, Executive Director of EGAC – Project Manager who all expressed the necessity of such seminars in the different industrial cities in Egypt as it supports in the awareness of importance Accreditation and quality with respect to European legislation and also to understand the infrastructure of Egypt quality system in addition to the EA requirements and procedures.
The agenda included presentations covered the current and new EGAC activities. The presentations detailed the role and objective of the project and the expected contribution to EGAC and the industrial community as a whole. All presentations cleared the importance of signing EA MLA to EGAC and its impact on enhancing the trade between Egypt and EU.
Among the topics that were highlighted are the current and the new accreditation schemes in EGAC presented by the department’s heads in addition to presentation on Good laboratory practice and Notified bodies accreditation.
The total number of attendees was 50 and they have a considerable amount of time to inquire about different issues concerning the topics of the introduced subjects and other issues concerning accreditation activities and regulations of EGAC.
The attendees also introduced their written feedback of the Seminar with questionnaire about the Seminar. They provided many important feedbacks like demanding uploading of the presentations material on EGAC website and requirement for such Seminars on regular basis.
The EU Egy twinning project with a total amount EUR € 1.1 m within 21 months, currently under implementation by a consortium of EU Member State institutions: BMWi (Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, Germany, BAM (Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing), TÜV Rheinland Consulting GmbH, DAkkS (German national accreditation body), BfR (Federal Institute for Risk Assessment, Germany) and ACCREDIA (Italian national accreditation body). More than 350 mandays from German and Italian experts are foreseen in the framework of this project
An accreditation of a laboratory, inspection- or certification body is an independent confirmation of the competence of these bodies. The only body to provide these services in Egypt – based on a presidential decree - is the Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC) with its Director Hany El Desouki. During this project EGAC’s activities will be aligned with European requirements. To achieve this, trainings, seminars and workshops as well as study tours to Europe are foreseen for Egyptian experts. Also laboratories, inspection and certification bodies in the sectors of electrical products, gas appliances, pressure equipment and toys will be supported with trainings and study tours.
