The National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) announced that Safaga Laboratory, affiliated with the Authority, has been granted accreditation by the Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC) in accordance with the requirements of the international standard ISO/IEC 17025:2017 for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories.
This accreditation comes as part of the State’s ongoing efforts to develop the national food safety system and enhance laboratory infrastructure, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of testing and inspection results, and strengthening the effectiveness of food control and regulatory systems.
The accreditation of Safaga Laboratory represents one of the key outcomes of the National Food Safety Authority’s Strategic Plan (2023–2026), which aims to enhance institutional performance and upgrade the technical competence of the Authority’s laboratories in line with internationally recognized standards, thereby increasing confidence in laboratory results.
Safaga Laboratory is among the laboratories established in response to presidential directives to develop food inspection and control systems at various ports of entry. This contributes to reducing clearance time for imported food consignments, accelerating export procedures for food and agricultural products, facilitating trade, and ensuring full compliance with the highest food safety and consumer protection requirements.
The Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC) affirmed that granting this accreditation reflects the laboratory’s compliance with international technical and quality requirements, and supports the international recognition of its testing results. This, in turn, contributes to strengthening the national food safety system and supporting the national economy at both regional and international levels.
