Within the framework of the national role played by the Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC) in supporting human competency systems and enhancing confidence in training and personnel certification programs, Admiral Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), witnessed the official ceremony for awarding the ISO/IEC 17024 International Accreditation to the Vocational Training Center of the Suez Canal Authority in Port Said.
The ceremony took place during his meeting with Eng. Mohamed Hassan Abdel Halim, Executive Director of the Egyptian Accreditation Council, in the presence of Vice Admiral Ashraf Atwa, Vice Chairman of the Authority, at the Guidance Building in Ismailia Governorate.
This accreditation comes in implementation of the directives of H.E. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to give priority to technical and vocational education, and as a culmination of the Suez Canal Authority’s efforts to develop human resources and enhance the technical competencies of its workforce. Under this accreditation, technicians of the Authority in the fields of welding, electricity, mechanics, and carpentry will be awarded certificates in accordance with the highest internationally recognized standards, accredited by EGAC, and recognized by the International Accreditation Forum (IAF), the African Accreditation Cooperation (AFRAC), and the Arab Accreditation Cooperation (ARAC).
Admiral Osama Rabie emphasized that accrediting the Vocational Training Center in Port Said represents a pivotal step toward strengthening international confidence in national technical competencies, aligning training outputs with labor market requirements, and supporting sustainable professional development. He noted that this achievement constitutes the first phase of a comprehensive strategy to develop and accredit all Suez Canal Authority training centers across the Canal region.
For his part, Eng. Mohamed Hassan Abdel Halim, Executive Director of EGAC, expressed his appreciation for the successful cooperation with the Suez Canal Authority’s Vocational Training Center, which resulted in achieving international accreditation in the aforementioned technical fields. He highlighted the ambitious vision of the center’s management, the high level of technical preparedness, and the advanced infrastructure supporting training and assessment activities.
He further noted that attaining this accreditation required the center to successfully pass comprehensive assessment, auditing, inspection, and verification processes to ensure full compliance with the requirements of ISO/IEC 17024, confirming its competence as an internationally recognized personnel certification body.
The ISO/IEC 17024 accreditation represents a cornerstone of the national accreditation system, ensuring the integrity, impartiality, and credibility of personnel certification processes, while supporting international recognition of Egyptian technical and professional qualifications.
During the ceremony, Major General Walid Awad, Head of the Vocational Training Center in Port Said (Al-Abrantiya), received the accreditation certificate from Eng. Mohamed Hassan Abdel Halim, in the presence of Eng. Sabry Nasr, Head of the Technical Office of the Suez Canal Authority, and Eng. Ahmed Nasr, Director of the Personnel Certification Accreditation Department at EGAC.
This achievement reaffirms the commitment of the national accreditation system to supporting state efforts in advancing technical education, enhancing workforce competitiveness, and contributing to sustainable development and the national economy.
