🩸 EGAC Grants Accreditation to the Blood Transfusion and Derivatives Center at the South Egypt Cancer Institute – Assiut University
In a new achievement that strengthens Egypt’s position in the field of medical accreditation, Prof. Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, announced that the Blood Transfusion and Derivatives Center at the Department of Clinical Pathology, South Egypt Cancer Institute, has been officially accredited by the Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC) after successfully fulfilling the requirements of the international standard ISO 15189:2022 in the field of blood transfusion testing and its derivatives.
This accreditation marks an important step towards enhancing the quality of medical and laboratory services provided at the university, and reinforces the position of the South Egypt Cancer Institute as a leading medical and research institution applying the highest standards of accuracy, safety, and quality in laboratory medicine and blood transfusion testing.
Prof. Dr. El-Minshawy congratulated the staff and management of the Institute and the Blood Transfusion Center, commending their dedication and commitment to quality standards. He emphasized that this achievement reflects the university’s vision of institutional excellence and adherence to international accreditation standards across all its medical centers and laboratories.
Prof. Dr. Mohamed Aboulmagd, Dean of the South Egypt Cancer Institute, expressed his pride in this accomplishment, noting that the accreditation is the result of collective efforts and teamwork by the institute’s staff who are committed to continuous improvement and maintaining high levels of accuracy and safety in all services provided to patients.
Dr. Asmaa Mohamed Zahran, Head of the Department of Clinical Pathology and Supervisor of the Blood Transfusion and Derivatives Center, highlighted that the center is equipped with state-of-the-art technologies and operates under a rigorous quality control system for blood group testing, compatibility testing, and the preparation of blood derivatives. She added that this success was made possible through the strong collaboration among the medical, technical, and administrative teams, as well as the continuous support from the university and the institute’s leadership.
Dr. Zahran also extended her gratitude to the team members who contributed to achieving this milestone, including Dr. Eman Hassan Ahmed, Dr. Engy Adel Shafik, Dr. Maha Hosny Mohamed, Dr. Ahmed Maqbool, Dr. Mirna Wagih, and Dr. Sahar Anwar, along with the chemists and technicians of the center. She also expressed appreciation to the former management—Dr. Rania Bakry and Dr. Eman Mosad—for their previous contributions to the development of the center.
This milestone aligns with the continuous efforts of the Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC) to expand the scope of accredited conformity assessment bodies in the healthcare sector, supporting the improvement of medical laboratory services across Egypt and ensuring international recognition of accredited results through EGAC’s mutual recognition agreements with ILAC, AFRAC, and ARAC.
The Egyptian Accreditation Council reaffirms that such achievements highlight the strong commitment of Egyptian medical institutions to international quality standards and reflect Egypt’s growing leadership in advancing reliable, high-quality healthcare and laboratory services in line with the national vision for sustainable development.
