In a new milestone that strengthens Egypt’s position in the field of accreditation and testing, the Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC) has officially accredited the first X-RAY laboratory for gold testing operated by the Assay and Weights Authority, making it the first of its kind in Egypt, Africa, and the Middle East.
This achievement marks a significant step in advancing the technical capabilities of the gold testing and hallmarking sector. The laboratory’s accreditation is internationally recognized through EGAC’s mutual recognition under the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC), ensuring that its test results are globally accepted.
The newly accredited X-RAY laboratory specializes in precisely determining gold purity levels and verifying compliance with legal standards, using advanced non-destructive X-RAY technology to ensure the highest levels of quality, accuracy, and reliability.
Dr. Hamdy El-Hamahamy, President of the Assay and Weights Authority, emphasized that this accreditation represents a major development in the Authority’s technical infrastructure and reflects the commitment of the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade to adopting international best practices in the analysis of precious metals. This milestone will enhance confidence in the Egyptian gold market and strengthen its competitiveness both locally and internationally.
This achievement comes as part of EGAC’s ongoing efforts to support the quality and competitiveness of Egyptian products and services, and to expand the scope of accredited conformity assessment bodies, thereby reinforcing trust in Egyptian outputs across global markets.
