The Egyptian National Accreditation Council (EGAC) has, for the first time in Egypt, successfully completed the accreditation of Tudor Biobank, marking a major milestone in the country’s accreditation landscape. This achievement makes biobanking the 13th field of accreditation for EGAC, positioning it as the largest accreditation body in the world in terms of the number of accreditation fields.
EGAC is also on track to obtain international recognition in the field of biobank accreditation from the European co-operation for Accreditation (EA) in April 2026, further strengthening Egypt’s role in advancing global accreditation standards.
Biobanking is a new and emerging field at both regional and global levels. Biobanks store hundreds of millions of biological samples, including human, animal, plant, microbial, and other microorganisms. These biobanks play a crucial role in the global scientific community by supporting medical diagnosis, treatment, and enhancing agricultural productivity.
The accreditation process carried out by EGAC will allow biobanks to undergo systematic evaluations and periodic reviews, tailored to the specific activities and responsibilities of each biobank. This includes ensuring proper handling, storage, and management of biological materials in accordance with internationally recognized standards.
This achievement reflects EGAC’s continued commitment to expanding its scope, enhancing quality infrastructure in Egypt, and supporting scientific and industrial innovation through globally recognized accreditation practices.
