The Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC), affiliated with the Ministry of Industry, is the sole national accreditation body in Egypt responsible for evaluating and accrediting conformity assessment bodies. EGAC aims to support the Egyptian economy, enhance the competitiveness of Egyptian exports, and ensure the global acceptance of Egyptian goods and services.
Accreditation with international recognition is a key enabler for facilitating exports and gaining global acceptance for products and services.
EGAC is the only accreditation body in the world recognized internationally and regionally by five organizations:
the African Accreditation Cooperation (AFRAC), the Arab Accreditation Cooperation (ARAC), the European co-operation for Accreditation (EA), the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC), and the International Accreditation Forum (IAF).
This recognition has led to global acceptance by major organizations such as the World Trade Organization (WTO), the World Health Organization (WHO), and several United Nations organizations, including the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
EGAC’s vision has evolved from achieving international recognition to maintaining and expanding it both horizontally and vertically, as it now provides accreditation services to conformity assessment bodies in 13 fields, including:
-
Testing laboratories
-
Calibration laboratories
-
Medical laboratories
-
Inspection bodies
-
Management system certification bodies
-
Product certification bodies
-
Personnel certification bodies
-
Proficiency testing providers
-
Halal certification bodies
-
Biobanks
-
Forensic entities
-
Validation and verification bodies
-
Reference material producers
EGAC also conducts specialized training programs on various accreditation standards for its clients and assessment experts in Egypt and abroad.
The benefits of obtaining accreditation from EGAC include globally recognized certification without the need for re-evaluation, reduced business risks, enhanced confidence in goods and services, and the facilitation of global trade—ensuring that all certificates issued by EGAC-accredited bodies are internationally accepted.
