The Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC) announced the renewal of the international accreditation for the Clinical and Chemical Pathology Laboratories at Kasr Al-Ainy Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University, in accordance with the requirements of the international standard ISO 15189:2022 for medical laboratories, reaffirming the laboratories’ continued compliance with internationally recognized quality and technical competence requirements.
This renewal represents a continuation of the accreditation journey that began in 2012, with the laboratories receiving their initial international accreditation from EGAC in 2016. Since then, the accreditation has been regularly renewed following assessment and surveillance visits conducted by EGAC assessors to verify ongoing conformity with the standard.
The latest renewal was granted on 22 October 2025 under the updated version of ISO 15189:2022, demonstrating the laboratories’ capability to keep pace with international developments and maintain a robust quality management system based on continuous improvement.
The scope of accreditation was further expanded to include the Capillary Electrophoresis for HbA1c (SEBIA Octa3) system at the Research and Protein Unit of the Clinical and Chemical Pathology Laboratories. This marks the first accreditation of this type of system in Egypt by EGAC, enhancing the accuracy and reliability of test results and supporting high-quality medical services, particularly in diabetes diagnosis and monitoring.
EGAC affirms that this achievement reflects the readiness and competence of Egyptian medical laboratories to sustain and expand international accreditation, strengthening confidence in laboratory test results and supporting the national healthcare system in line with global best practices.
