The Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) has successfully passed the first surveillance visit of the reference material production unit conducted by the Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC), in accordance with the international standard ISO 17034:2016 for the competence of reference material producers.
This visit coincided with the international peer evaluation of EGAC by both the African Accreditation Cooperation (AFRAC) and the Arab Accreditation Cooperation (ARAC), aiming to renew and extend EGAC’s international recognition to include the accreditation of reference material producers.
The assessment program included a comprehensive review of technical and administrative aspects, covering impartiality, confidentiality, quality control, production, storage, traceability, as well as management reviews and continual improvement efforts.
The evaluation results confirmed EDA’s commitment to implementing the highest standards of quality and international accreditation, reinforcing its role in ensuring the competence and quality of reference materials and enhancing confidence in the national and international pharmaceutical systems.
The EGAC assessment team was received by Dr. Dalia Abu Hussein, General Director of the General Directorate of Quality Assurance, and Dr. Mohamed El-Khatib, General Director of the General Directorate of Reference Laboratories, along with specialized working teams from both departments.
This achievement comes within Egypt’s national efforts to support and develop the pharmaceutical system in alignment with global best practices, opening wider prospects for international cooperation and enhancing the export potential of Egyptian reference materials.
It also contributes to supporting local pharmaceutical industries by providing high-quality accredited reference materials that meet the needs of quality control and testing laboratories in Egypt and abroad.
