As part of the Egyptian state’s ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional quality concepts and develop modern management systems within the healthcare sector, the General Authority for Healthcare (GAH) has announced obtaining the international ISO 9001:2015 certification for Quality Management Systems. The certification was issued by TÜV AUSTRIA Egypt and accredited by both the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC), reflecting the Authority’s compliance with internationally recognized quality and management requirements and standards.
This achievement represents an important milestone in supporting the state’s efforts toward enhancing healthcare services and advancing institutional transformation across healthcare entities. It also highlights the pivotal role played by the national accreditation system in ensuring the competence and reliability of certification bodies, while reinforcing confidence in quality systems implemented within Egyptian institutions.
Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, Chairman of the General Authority for Healthcare and Supervisor General of the Universal Health Insurance Project, officially received the international certification in the presence of senior officials from the Authority, representatives of TÜV AUSTRIA Egypt, and representatives of EGAC, within the framework of joint cooperation aimed at promoting the implementation of international best practices in quality and institutional accreditation.
The General Authority for Healthcare stated that ISO 9001:2015 is considered one of the most important international standards for Quality Management Systems worldwide, focusing on enhancing institutional performance efficiency, improving operational processes, increasing stakeholder satisfaction, and ensuring continual improvement mechanisms, all of which contribute to strengthening governance practices and institutional efficiency.
The Authority further explained that obtaining the certification came after implementing a fully integrated quality management system based on a systematic institutional approach rather than reliance on individual performance, thereby ensuring sustainability of operations and continuity of high-quality healthcare services. This was achieved through the development of internal operational procedures using advanced methodologies and tools for institutional process management and analysis.
In this context, Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky received a delegation from TÜV AUSTRIA Egypt and the Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC), including Eng. Osama El-Sayed, General Manager of TÜV AUSTRIA Egypt; Eng. Tamer El-Hariri, Business Development Manager; Eng. Ahmed Ali, Certification and Training Manager at TÜV AUSTRIA Egypt; and Eng. Hussein Fawzy, Head of Certification Bodies Accreditation Department at EGAC. Discussions focused on enhancing joint cooperation in the fields of quality, international accreditation, and institutional management systems development within the General Authority for Healthcare.
The meeting also emphasized that obtaining ISO 9001:2015 certification represents a starting point toward expanding the Authority’s portfolio of international accreditations during the coming period, particularly in the areas of sustainability, institutional quality, and medical tourism, in a manner that supports the competitiveness of the Egyptian healthcare sector and strengthens Egypt’s position as a regional hub for healthcare services in accordance with international standards.
For his part, Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky praised the efforts of the Authority’s work teams, affirming that this achievement reflects a deeply rooted institutional culture based on quality, excellence, teamwork, and continuous improvement. He emphasized that the accomplishment demonstrates the Authority’s ongoing commitment to implementing international best practices in healthcare management and service delivery, thereby contributing to improving healthcare quality and enhancing public trust and satisfaction.
He further confirmed that the Authority will continue implementing its institutional development plans and pursuing additional international accreditations across various specialized fields, in line with Egypt’s vision for healthcare sector development and the objectives of the Universal Health Insurance System according to the highest international quality standards.
This achievement also reflects the important national role played by the Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC), as the official national body responsible for accrediting conformity assessment bodies in the Arab Republic of Egypt, and its continuous efforts to promote the culture of quality and accreditation while enhancing confidence in institutional systems and services in support of sustainable development goals and improved public services nationwide.
